The DPA (Data Protection Act) 2018 sets out the framework for data protection law in the UK, it replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 and came into effect on 25th May 2018.
The DPA 2018 sits alongside the GDPR to instruct the companies on how the GDPR applies in the UK. It is the General Data Protection Regulation which it sets out the key principles, rights and obligations for most processing of personal data.
The PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations) also sits alongside the DPA and GDPR and has been amended several times since 25th May 2018. This gives people specific privacy rights about electronic communications which cover several areas including marketing calls, email, texts, faxes, cookies, location data, identification services, network service providers, video messages and internet messaging.
